Amber Harrison, MI - "The Teapot Started Singing Teatime"
You may have seen artwork crafted from glass or metal, but never before have you seen the range, originality and quality coming together for “Molten,” a nationally juried glass and metals show coming to Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles.
“Molten” will run Jan. 11 through Feb. 15. 2014 in the Kavanagh Gallery on the Fine Line campus, and will feature wearable, decorative and functional creations formed of glass and/or metals.
The inventive blending of color, shape and form in Kansas artist Sara Sally LaGrand’s two decorative glass pieces: “Fibonacci Sequence” and “Zygote,” are beyond compare.
Intricate glass pieces, such as West Virginia artist Kim
Edwards’ finely wrought colorful “Dodecahedron Pendants,” are unique examples of wearable art.
The range of wearable metal creations is phenomenal, from Michigan artist Amber Harrison’s elaborate piece: “The Teapot Started Singing Teatime,” to the detailed necklace: “Curves in the Right Places II” created by Georgia artist Victoria Lansford.
Innovative metal sculptures, like the “H2O” and “Hardware Sphere” by Nevada artist Barry Ferich, would be stunning additions to any private collection.
All “Molten” works will be available for purchase.
This show’s opening reception, from 2 - 4:30 pm on Saturday, January 11, will provide the opportunity to meet with several of the participating artists:
Jackie Truty of Oak Lawn, TR Biddle of St. Charles, Ellen and Don Ljung of Geneva, Amanda Schleede of Glen Ellyn, Sher Berman of Deerfield, Barry Stevens of Naperville, Michelle Rial of Serena, and (weather permitting) Nikki Thomas from Athens, GA and Kathryn Bowman of St. Charles, MO.
Three jurors: sculptor Guy Bellaver, multi-disciplinary artist and teacher Gail Crosman Moore, and glass and metal artist Andrea Guarino-Slemmons participated in choosing the most original and highest quality submissions from artists across the country. All three are experts in glass and metals arts.
Bellaver will present the Best of Show Award during the opening reception, and speak on the jurying of “Molten,” as well. In addition, attend this exhibit during the first half of its run and you can to vote for the People’s Choice Award, to be presented halfway through the show.
Fine Line Creative Arts Center, located at 37W570 Bolcum Rd. in St. Charles, is a nonprofit art school offering classes for adults in a range of fine arts. Two galleries are included on the Fine Line campus, featuring local to international artists.
