Thomas Jefferson Would Probably Be Disappointed

Great quotations from Thomas Jefferson.

"Yes, we did produce a near perfect Republic. But will they keep it,
or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom?
Material abundance without character is the surest way to
destruction."

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of
civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

"Good citizens make the society they live in; bad citizens train
themselves to fit the world they are given by their masters."

These were courtesy of a fellow unschooling mom on our yahoo list. To me, ignorant equals head in the sand like an ostrich, and "book learning" doesn't equal critical thinking skills any more than school equals education or Fox equals news. Wake up and smell the air pollution! Our society's entire system of education is based creating obedient factory workers. Of course, most of those jobs have gone to China...
